Yellow Blooms
Medium: Silk organza, epoxy clay, string
Yellow Blooms celebrates the strength, resilience, and beauty of Asian people. I am proud to be part of the Asian community here in Colorado - a very small but vibrant group that makes up about five percent of the state’s population.
The yellow dyes in this piece were created from onion skins collected from Katsu Ramen, a Japanese and Korean couple-owned restaurant in Denver, as well as marigold, weld, rabbitbrush, and goldenrod grown in my garden. Each color carries a story of connection - between culture, place, and the land that nurtures us.
